- Saint-Jory-de-Chalais "the sweet" held annually in September to celebrate crayfish. These festivities have become more and more popular in the region and drain each year more than 2000 participants! The pretty little town of Perigord Vert has a Dolmen (known as the Stone Closure), the arboretum Pouyouleix which holds one of the largest collection of oaks in France (about 170) and finally a blow ham.
It is impossible to make a comprehensive inventory of all the riches of the Green Périgord in general and the Township of Jumilhac. We can not conclude this list without talking briefly about tourist sites all within a half a hour drive from Jumilhac. These places have a two or three star rating in the Michelin Green Guide and registered in the Unesco World Heritage:
-Villars Caves: These caves are the only caves in Europe to be visited in their natural environment with prehistoric rock paintings (exceptional). A few steps away you can visit the castle Puyguilhem that has its walls a rare and special furniture.
- Perigueux "the magnificent" alone is worth to spend two days at his discovery. This city rich in history offers both Vesunna museum built on the ruins of an ancient Roman palace, Byzantine Cathedral St. Front, and last but not least very charming little streets ( as beautifull as Sarlat).
Oradour-sur-Glane "the wounded" Martyrdom is the village preserved in memory by General de Gaulle. Unique and extraordinary emotions, this village in southern Limousin offers everyone a moment in history not to forget.
Come and discover the Perigord and especially in the canton of Jumilhac - Green Perigord. Earth of history and man, you will find the whole evolution of human being from the Neanderthals to the present.
Let us finally thank the Tourism Office of the Township of Jumilhac without whom we wouldn't be able to write these few lines.
